How to manually import American Express charges

To import AMEX charges, follow these steps:

  • Confirm that you already have an AMEX account set up in the Bank Connections page.  If you don't already have an account set up, go to Purchases > Connections and add an Unlinked Account for your AMEX.
  • Go to your AMEX portal
    • Select Statements and Activity
    • Select the Customer Date Range
      • You can view the date range of your previous imports on the Connections page.
      • For AMEX only (in other words, don't do this on other cards), you can overlap a few days to pick up charges that were pending on the previous import.  The CSV Upload will prevent duplicate charges from being imported.
    • Select the download link
      • Important! Make sure you select CSV and (reselect) Extended Details.  The Extended Details has numerous benefits including order level details which can be used in matching and reference details that allow Reveal to exclude duplicate transactions.
  • In the Reveal portal, go to Purchases > CVS Upload
    • Select the Source File (aka the csv file you just created from the AMEX portal)
    • Select the AMEX account as the Destination Account
    • Select the preset mapping for American Express (This should fill in the column mapping for you.)
      • Important! Verify that the Transaction ID field has mapped to the Reference column in your csv.  This fields prevents duplicate charges from being imported.
    • Select Accept Column Mappings
    • Verify that you don't have any errors to fix.  (Look at the Rows with Errors count in the Source File section.)
    • Select Import Rows at the bottom of the page
